Central Frederick Neighbourhood Association is the proud recipient of a Region of Waterloo Arts Fund grant that will allow us to engage neighbours in public art projects to build inclusion. We have six projects planned through August 2018 that all focus on bringing resdents together as contributors, consumers, creators, and hosts.
Take a look at our planned projects:
Collective Art Exhibit
In November, 2017 our collective art exhibit went on tour for the Frederick Street Art Walk. Thirteen residents, ranging in age from 4- 64 participated in the exhibit that hung on the art house building on the corner of Brubacher and Samuel. An estimate of 1500 people were witness to the exhibit.
Put A Bird On It
For this pop up project (which happened in March 2018), neighbourhood artists Wendy Newberry and Rachel Tanner worked with almost 80 community members to glaze, paint and collaging over 200 wood and ceramic birds. The birds will be hung around the neighbourhood for people to find and enjoy.
Birdhouse Art Jam
Artist Jennifer Gordon led our Birdhouse Art Jam, where 75 people worked together and painted 48 birdhouses to be displayed on the shed in Weber park in June, 2018. Special thanks to the genius design and install team Teressa & Chris Van Vliet for making our birdhouses into the most AWESOME art bomb we have ever seen.
In June, 2018 artist and photographer Wendy Cotter organized a photography crawl for a group of 15 novice and experienced photographers from the neighbourhood. The goal was to capture the neighbourhood. If you are interested in seeing their depiction of our ‘hood their display is up now at the Kitchener Market on the second floor.
A Mystery Mural……. you will know more when you see it 😉
