Two Jane’s Walks in Central Frederick – May 3

There’s two Jane’s Walks scheduled (so far) in Central Frederick. While not official CFNA events, we wanted to share them with you in case you’re interested in exploring our neighbourhood.

If you’re interested in exploring other neighbourhoods, check out the other Jane’s Walks in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.

The Doors of Central FrederickJane's Walk: The Fairy Doors of Central Frederick

May 3 at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m.

Meet at Brubacher Green

Central Fairies is a grass roots movement, encouraging people to walk in their neighbourhoods and engage with the properties they pass.  Putting up a door creates a connection with the people that you live closest to, exposes children to map reading and motivates them to learn the street names of the area. One little door, alongside all of these other little doors, will create a movement showing everyone that we believe in the magic of community.

On our Fairy Door Jane’s Walk, we will remain entirely on Brubacher Street, searching for Fairy Doors, hearing stories and identifying the trees that Fairies love.  The Walk will end at the same park where children will be encouraged to play with the neighbourhood’s communal toys and search through our little library.

May 3 at 9:30 a.m.

Meet inside Frederick Mall near Valumart & hardware store

Once on the edge of town and now considered downtown, we’ll look at the people, places and stories that shaped Central Frederick to be the vibrant neighbourhood it is today. We’ll start at what originally was the Frederick Street Plaza. We’ll work our way towards downtown until we reach Suddaby Public School when we’ll start to make our way back to local institution Norris Bakery. While Frederick Street is the backbone of this neighbourhood, we’ll go as far east (by Kitchener directions!) as Brubacher Street and as far west as what is now known as Mansion Street.

Here’s a self-guided version of the walk
