Mansion Greens to plant a Food Forest

An exciting project in Weber Park

Mansion Greens Community Garden (MGCG) is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Edible Trees Grant from Tree Canada for the creation of a forest garden in Weber Park. For those unfamiliar with the concept, forest gardening is a low-maintenance sustainable gardening practice based on woodland ecosystems, that incorporates fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines and perennial vegetables.

This grant, along with community hands and corporate sponsors will help to prepare the space between the garden and public path for the multitude of edible fruit trees, shrubs and plants that will be planted this fall.

Interested in joining the project? MGCG is looking for your help!

Our first step this spring will be to prepare the sheet mulch, and we are currently collecting cardboard at the shed in Weber Park beside the tennis court. We are also looking for some extra hands to help lay the sheet mulch on June 6 and plant trees and shrubs this fall. If you’re interested in getting involved, please RSVP on the Facebook event page or  email mansiongreens@gmail.com

For additional details about the project and updates, please visit the community garden’s Facebook Page.
